1- Can you tell my readers a little bit about yourself?

I am an empowerment strategist, speaker, author, sister & friend. Creator of ‘I Hear That Girl’ the brand. I Hear That Girl! Is an empowerment lifestyle brand that promotes the positive perspective of life for black women. It has birthed not only the I Hear That Girl! (dot) com website, but also a book, I Hear That Girl: Life Advice for Every Sista, a journey into the concept of life advice. In which the unbiased evaluation of your life experiences help you become the best version of yourself. I’ve expanded the brand as an Empowerment Coach helping women become the best version of themselves. I’m also a media instructor at Philmor Academy, the first minority private school in Dekalb county. I have a heart for women to empower across the country with multiple events, conferences, coaching, and educational workshops. My belief is “If You Empower the Women, You Empower the Community”. I’m really outgoing, down to earth and an overall “chill” woman. I love to laugh, so you will catch me doing that most.

2- What’s a normal day like for you?

Each morning when I rise, I thank the Creator for giving me an opportunity. Meditation and affirmations follow along with a quick play of whatever song is playing in my head when I wake, lol. It’s crazy the songs in my head. I should really make a mixtape of them (showing my age). It’s really random, I have to laugh at it some times, but it gets my day going. After that, it’s lots of emails, planning, and social media, followed by empowerment sessions with my clients. All in all, my day is pretty free flowing and flexible.

3- What inspired you to start your business/blog?

During my corporate career as Director of Marketing & Promotions, I realized the importance and necessity of positive representation. My discouragement with mass media’s portrayal of black women pushed me to create my own media platform. A place where I could showcase my reality. The sisters I know are amazing, businesswomen, mothers, sisters, and friends. They deserve to be represented.

4- What are some of the challenges you face as a woman in business?

When I was 16, I was thrust into a male dominated industry. I learned really early that you have to be in control of your life. Don’t leave it up to anyone to show you anything. Search it out for yourself, thirst for knowledge in your industry. Put your hands in everything. Ask questions and don’t expect any handouts. More men answered my questions than women. The few women that were in the industry didn’t share because they feared their spot would be taken. Because of them, I share like crazy! Lol, seriously. I mentor and share as much as I can. I want my little sisters to be and achieve even more than I did.

5- Running a business is not easy how do you stay motivated?

I remind myself of where I’ve been and how far I’ve come. I don’t try to compare my journey to someone else’s. When you recognize that you are LIVING the journey, you can’t stop to compare it with someone who’s completed theirs. And do what you want! It’s ok to have a do-nothing day without guilt. It’s the guilt people have from a nonproductive moment that keeps them from picking back up.

6-What are three things that no one tells you about being an entrepreneur?

It’s hard (People front like they have it all together… miss me with that). Learn how to do everything in your business. Consistency is key.

7- What advice would you give to your much younger self?

Don’t pour yourself into everyone else. Focus on building yourself up so you can really help them.

8-What’s Next For you and your business?

Continuing to expand the brand with the addition of more services, events, and platforms.
