I AM GREATNESS: DOMESTIC QUEEN V TAYBRON

Ladies and the few gentlemen that follows me please meet my favorite Domestic Queen V Taybron!

1- V, Can you tell my readers a little bit about yourself ?

I am obsessed with home life. When I was a little girl all I wanted to do was bake, cook, and care for my family. The Domestic Arts means everything to me from making my own carpet cleaner to creating succulent shortbread cookies and chocolate from scratch. Being the Domestic Queen is a way of life for me. It’s in my soul.

2- What’s a normal day like for you?

I wake up in the morning and make some hot tea. I don’t have to leave for anything so I set my environment by lighting my favorite candle or even mopping the floor with cleaner just to smell the scent because I’m big on smells. Then I sit down at my desk and begin working. I check my emails, print out the online orders, and begin to fill them. The day consists of filling online dessert orders, dropping them off at the post office, and posting more delicious dessert on instagram in order to secure more online orders.

3- What inspired you to start your business/blog?

What inspired me to start Savor V was a complete accident. I was almost homeless with a bank account of negative $500 with Bank of America. My power was turned off and my car was a few days from repossession. An inspired thought popped into my mind to bake cookies but since my power was off, I couldn’t. Luckily, since my parents still paid my cell phone bill because I was in Atlanta alone and they were in California I had phone service. I called a friend and asked if I could use her kitchen. She allowed me to do this and I used the ingredients in her kitchen to make snickerdoodle cookies. I then went door to door, to hair salons, and barber shops. Before I knew it a little over an hour later I had made $200. I took this money to get my power turned back on and I’ve been baking ever since. Baking saved my life.

4- What are some of the challenges you face as a woman in business?

I have never liked this question only because I really don’t believe in challenges. I try not to acknowledge them. I am aware that they exist but if I focused on the many challenges I had I would have given up a long time ago. As a woman in business my “challenges” have only been within myself. I am working on growth, consistency, and becoming more creative so that it can be reflected in my business with continuous results.

5- Running a business is not easy how do you stay motivated?

I have always had issues with authority. I was the rebellious child and luckily my loving parents were able to channel all of that energy and steer me in the right direction although I’m sure I made their hair turn grey. I am motivated to run my business because I like to call my own shots, make my own rules, and not be depended upon a work performance review in order to get a pay increase. That for me is motivation enough to keep going.

6-What are three things that no one told you about being an entrepreneur?

The three things they don’t tell you is that it is not glamorous. It’s fulfilling but it is not all cupcakes and frosting. You have to be willing to get dirty and grind. The second thing they don’t tell is how much you will fail. In the beginning stages you will make many mistakes, fail a lot, and it is the best thing for you because it causes you to learn quickly. The third thing no one is going to tell you is that not everyone will understand it. When you have a vision a lot of people won’t get, won’t support it, and might even try to talk you out of it. Keep going and continue to take small steps because small steps turn into big wins. Once you start winning then everyone will come and want to win with you.

7- What advice would you give to your much younger self?

I would tell my younger self to master my emotions. A lot of times I freaked out or worried and it always end up being okay. I would tell my younger self to calm down, go with the flow, and master my emotions.

8-What’s Next For you and your business?

My business has always been all about the cupcakes but at the core I am the Domestic Queen who wants to share the domestic lifestyle with the world. I now have a team of Domestic Queen bloggers who are sharing lots of awesome content on our site of what the domestic life and homemaking is. It is going well now and we are working on making it bigger and better.

9- What are some of your favorite inspirational quotes?

Growing up I was looking in my older cousin’s high school yearbook. Under her photo she said, “you don’t have to blow out my candle to make yours shine brighter.” That stuck with me. As entrepreneurs, women, and moguls in the making we can all win. Competition is dead because you always have to look to the left or right to see what someone else in doing in order to compete. I prefer to look forward. I don’t have to blow out anyone’s candles. We can all win in our own lanes.

10-Any words of advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Saturate yourself with goodness. That could be in the form of a happy and healthy relationship, good friends, alone time, books, concerts, favorite movies, and more. When you feel good it shows up in your business. I wake up everyday making sure that I feel good. That’s my first order of business. I make my tea, meditate, clean, sometimes I turn on music. Then I get to work and everything I touch works because I feel good. Stay away from anyone or anything that makes you feel bad because it snuffs out your creativity.

Finish this sentence; I AM GREATNESS because, I choose.
